[¶0] 305 Death’s Router, from th’ Almighty Sire’s empire

[¶1] At length He came, and with our human limbs

[¶2] He clothed Him. Adam—virgin—dragon—tree,

[¶3] The cause of ruin, and the way whereby

[¶4] Rash death us all had vanquisht! by the same

[¶5] 310 Our Shepherd treading, seeking to regain

[¶6] His sheep—with angel—virgin—His own flesh—

[¶7] And the “tree’s” remedy; whence vanquisht man

[¶8] And doomed to perish was aye wont to go

[¶9] To meet his vanquisht peers; hence, interposed,

[¶10] 315 One in all captives’ room, He did sustain

[¶11] In body the unfriendly penalty

[¶12] With patience; by His own death spoiling death;

[¶13] Becomes salvation’s cause; and, having paid

[¶14] Throughly our debts by throughly suffering

[¶15] 320 On earth, in holy body, everything,

[¶16] Seeks the infern! here souls, bound for their crime,

[¶17] Which shut up all together by Law’s weight,

[¶18] Without a guard, were asking for the boons

[¶19] Promised of old, hoped for, and tardy, He

[¶20] 325 To the saints’rest admitted, and, with light,

[¶21] Brought back. For on the third day mounting up,

[¶22] A victor, with His body by His Sire’s

[¶23] Virtue immense, (salvation’s pathway made,)

[¶24] And bearing God and man is form create,

[¶25] 330 He clomb the heavens, leading back with Him

[¶26] Captivity’s first-fruits (a welcome gift

[¶27] And a dear figure to the Lord), and took

[¶28] His seat beside light’s Father, and resumed

[¶29] The virtue and the glory of which, while

[¶30] 335 He was engaged in vanquishing the foe

[¶31] He had been stripped; conjoined with Spirit; bound

[¶32] With flesh, on our part. Him, Lord, Christ, King, God,

[¶33] Judgment and kingdom given to His hand,

[¶34] The father is to send unto the orb.
