The first edition of this book, released into the light [published] in 1966, called forth the most lively interest of readers. The book was rapidly sold out, and to the address of the publishing house and the compilers there began to arrive letters from individual persons and various organisations with the request to help them obtain the book of A. K. Gastev. It is these circumstances, alongside the actuality [topical relevance] and importance of the problems examined in the book, the originality and depth of their illumination, that conditioned the necessity of the present re-edition.
Первое издание этой книги, выпущенное в свет в 1966 г., вызвало живейший интерес читателей. Книга была быстро распродана, а в адрес издательства и составителей стали поступать письма от отдельных лиц и различных организаций с просьбой помочь им достать книгу А. К. Гастева. Эти обстоятельства наряду с актуальностью и важностью рассматриваемых в книге проблем, оригинальностью и глубиной их освещения и обусловили необходимость настоящего переиздания.
The book “How to Work” is re-edited without reworking and additions; in it there have been corrected only certain technical shortcomings of the previous edition. References in the text are formatted as in the lifetime [the author’s lifetime] editions, and for the most part the authorial punctuation and orthography are preserved.
Книга «Как надо работать» переиздается без переработки и дополнений, в ней исправлены лишь некоторые технические недочеты предыдущего издания. Ссылки в тексте оформлены, как в прижизненных изданиях, и в основном сохранена авторская пунктуация и орфография.
The publishing house and the compilers deemed it expedient in the new edition not to eliminate partially [piecemeal] those forced abridgements of which it was spoken in the preface to the first edition. Since the chief scientific labour of A. K. Gastev — the book “Labour Installations [установки: also settings, sets]” — was never, after all, released by the publishing house “Prosveshchenie,” it was recognised as expedient to release the book “Labour Installations,” the work adjoining to it, “The Installation of Production by the Method of CIT [ЦИТ, Central Institute of Labour],” and several productions [works] of Gastev closely connected with them in thematic and conception, as a separate edition. It is proposed to carry out such an edition in the nearest future. This book, under the general title “Labour Installations,” will represent the immediate continuation of the book “How to Work.”
Издательство и составители сочли целесообразным в новом издании не устранять частично те вынужденные сокращения, о которых говорилось в предисловии к первому изданию. Поскольку главный научный труд А. К. Гастева – книга «Трудовые установки» так и не была выпущена издательством «Просвещение», было признано целесообразным книгу «Трудовые установки», примыкающую к ней работу «Установка производства методом ЦИТ» и несколько тесно связанных с ними по тематике и замыслу произведений Гастева выпустить отдельным изданием. Такое издание предполагается осуществить в ближайшем будущем. Эта книга под общим названием «Трудовые установки» будет представлять непосредственное продолжение книги «Как надо работать».
