[¶3] 21. At the present time, the putting-in-order of the technical economy [хозяйство: husbandry, housekeeping] connected with forging machines is particularly necessary, which is presented by CIT [ЦИТ, Central Institute of Labour] on particular special cards according to:

> Russian: 21.

[¶9] a) the brigadier,

> Russian:

[¶16] 23. Finally, for the securing of uninterrupted work it is necessary to devote attention to the workplaces and to the CIT cards according to the works of:

> Russian: 23.

[¶17] a) the greasers,

> Russian:

[¶18] b) the duty fitters, and especially:

[¶19] c) according to the periodical external inspection of machines,

[¶20] d) according to the disassembly and assembly of machines,

[¶21] e) according to preventive repair.

[¶22] 24. The organisation of stores of spare parts, both of the principal working mechanisms and of the fixtures, acquires a decisive significance for the uninterrupted work of machines. Economy on these items of expenditure threatens serious breakdowns in the work of all production cycles of the enterprise.

> Russian: 24.

[¶23] 25. All cards according to the organisation of workplaces, according to the distribution of duties and according to the instruction of works must be hung directly at the workplaces and made into departure documents [отправные документы: starting-point documents], which are subject to uninterrupted perfecting both from the side of the Stakhanovite workers and from that of the administration.

> Russian: 25.

[¶24] 26. The specificity of the work of the smith-shops, uncovered by the organisation of the workplace, consists precisely in the fact that the workplace itself, connected with the machine, is subordinated to the circular principle (or more correctly, the elliptical one), on the base of which the brigade works; but at the same time such services as lubrication, repair and storage affairs must more and more assimilate the frontal-linear principle.

> Russian: 26.

[¶25] 27. On the base of such a culture of finishing-off of workplaces, of their separate zones and working fronts, the tasks of achieving high productivity may be resolved with the greatest success — or, in particular, those of the compaction [уплотнение: densification, intensification] of the basic forging process, of the achievement of a high percentage of machine-time.

> Russian: 27.

[¶26] 28. Compaction must be achieved first of all by the securing of uninterrupted feeding of the machines from the side of the heating furnaces; work with two heating furnaces must be conducted most resolutely, with an Installation [установка: also setting, set] upon the hundred-per-cent work of the forging machines.

> Russian: 28.

[¶27] 29. Besides this type of compaction, which compresses the small interruptions in the work of the forging machines, the taking-out [removal] of preparatory and repair works out of the cycle of the basic production works has a determining significance. In this respect, the organisation of a third auxiliary shift alongside two basic ones must be regarded as the most radical solution. The productivity of the two basic shifts must overlap [exceed] the productivity of the contemporary rarefied three shifts. But it would be rash to perpetuate forever an entire third shift upon auxiliary-preparatory works: a third of the working year is too large a dose of time for the securing of 2/3 of the year according to the basic works. Therefore, subsequently, the third shift must be transformed into a culturally-conducted periodical inspection, repair and preparation, for which an entire daily shift of constant works is by no means required.

> Russian: 29.

[¶28] _Shops of cold stamping_

[¶29] 30. Preparatory shops of the type of cold stamping, according to the organisation of workplaces, differ sharply from hot shops in that the brigade type of organisation of the workplace — and consequently the disposition of things and labourers in a circle — in general has no place; here the linear principle with the corresponding servicing must be sharply expressed.

> Russian: 30.

[¶30] 31. The type of servicing of workplaces is in general analogous to the forge, with that substantial difference that both the stores and the entire motion of blanks must gravitate sharply towards the linear principle.

> Russian: 31.

[¶31] _Chip-separating shops_

> Russian: _Цеха стружкоотделительные_

[¶32] 32. The reduction of allowances in blanks and the wide introduction of hard alloys in mechanical processing, giving an enormous gain in the machine-processing of articles, compel [one] to set the works on the organisation of workplaces in chip-separating shops with particular thoroughness, with the aim of reducing installation [set-up] times.

> Russian: 32.

[¶33] 33. For these purposes, first of all, the laying-up — both into general and into strictly special containers — of every sort of blank acquires enormous significance, with such a calculation that the order of laying-up in the container should predetermine the order and rapidity of the loading of the machine-tools with articles,

> Russian: 33.

[¶34] 34. Boxes, honeycombs, rods and wires for the stringing-on of articles, chutes, cassettes, bunkers [hoppers] must be so adapted that the introduction of small mechanisation for loadings should suggest itself of its own accord.

> Russian: 34.

[¶35] 35. As a general rule, it is necessary that the order of laying-up of articles after an operation on one machine-tool be accommodated to the loading onto another, and not require a new re-laying or grouping of the articles.

> Russian: 35.

[¶36] 36. The growing organisedness in the laying-out of articles may be represented in the following gradation:

> Russian: 36.

[¶37] a) the laying-up on tables, shelving-units and racks of technical things in rows (order);

> Russian: а) укладка на столах, этажерках и стеллажах технических вещей в ряды (порядок);

[¶38] b) the laying-up in particular special containers;

> Russian: б) укладка в особой специальной таре;

[¶39] c) the laying-up in chutes, predetermining the direction of motion of the semi-product from machine-tool to machine-tool;

> Russian: в) укладка в желобах, предрешающих направление движения полупродукта от станка к станку;

[¶40] d) the laying-up in chutes, predetermining the immediate loading of the machine-tools;

> Russian: г) укладка в желобах, предрешающих непосредственную загрузку станков;

[¶41] e) mechanised loading of the machine-tools (small mechanisation);

> Russian: д) механизированная загрузка станков (малая механизация);

[¶42] f) mechanised loading with automatic clamps;

> Russian: е) механизированная загрузка с автоматическими зажимами;

[¶43] g) automatic loading with automatic clamps and unclamps.

[¶44] 37. Upon a sharp change of cutting regimes in the direction of the most intensive methods, it is necessary — in order to avoid a lowered percentage of machine-time, and consequently also a great standing-idle [downtime] of the machine-tools — to introduce immediately radical changes into the installation [set-up] functions, with the aim of their mechanisation and of thus shortening auxiliary times.

> Russian: 37.
