[¶0] Preface

> Russian:

[¶1] A new youth has burst into life. It — directly from the muzzle [mouth, crater] of the revolution.

[¶2] In it — the whole future of our RSFSR.

[¶3] It is full of fire and daring.

[¶4] If to this fire, if to this daring we managed to give holding-out [endurance, tempering] and knack, we would be the most cultured, the most invincible force in the world.

[¶5] Knack and holding-out must first of all be in your working hands, in your walking legs [feet]. It will automatically give holding-out and knack to your head: we shall create firm, volitional [strong-willed] and at the same time held-out men.

[¶6] In the pamphlet are given articles, printed in _Pravda_ and _Economic Life_, in which I, to the measure of [my] forces, hammered [chiselled] away at one point.

[¶7] And, if by these lines I managed to create even ten new “hammerers” [chisellers, those who keep hammering at one point] apiece in every city, I would consider my task fulfilled.

[¶8] _A. GASTEV_

> Russian: _А.

[¶9] _Central Institute of Labour [ЦИТ, CIT]_
