It is in vain to think that aggregate machine-tool construction is some sort of direction-ism [направленчество: a coined word, a mere trend] in the field of the production of equipment; it is the most rational exit from that complex position in which the machine-tool industry found itself before the face of the enormous need for special and narrowly-special machine-tools, and also before the face of the rapid moral wear [моральный износ: obsolescence] of the machine-tool park. And only the standardisation of machine-tool aggregates on the base of the planned socialist economy will help to master the enormous constructor's and production difficulties in the matter of the resolution of these problems.
Напрасно думать, что агрегатное станкостроение есть некое направленчество в области производства оборудования; это наиболее рациональный выход из того сложного положения, в котором оказалась станкостроительная промышленность перед лицом огромной потребности в специальных и узкоспециальных станках, а также перед лицом быстрого морального износа станочного парка. И только стандартизация станочных агрегатов на базе планового социалистического хозяйства поможет совладать с огромными конструкторскими и производственными трудностями в деле разрешения этих проблем.
A particular significance is acquired by the so-called combined machine-tools with standard heads, replacing whole lines of special or turret machine-tools; thereby factory areas are won several times over, time on the production of machine-tools is economised, the time of production machinings [обработка: working] is maximally shortened, and an expanse is opened up for modernisation.

The works carried through by us in the very last years — the construction and execution of whole machine-tool bays working by flow — showed that the creation of production lines with a completely free selection of strictly special equipment on the base of standard aggregates is fully realisable. Having only the assignment [задание: task, directive] for productivity, it turned out possible to carry through the designing both of the technology, and of the technical armament, and of the organisation of production, and of labour. Together with this, it turned out possible to execute everything in nature [в натуре: in physical, full-scale form], to hand over a whole bay in Moscow, to transfer this bay to an auto-tractor factory, to mount it in place and to include it into the available equipment.

Our works on the carrying-through of small mechanisation (motor-instruments), on rapid mounting by pouring [заливка: grouting the machine into its bed], and finally, experiments on mounting fixtures, permitted us to begin the realisation of a new great matter — the perfection of the jig-stand economy [стапельное хозяйство] and the creation of constructions in the field of large mounting in the form of frames, carcasses and brackets, as a constructive synthesis in the field of the deep mechanisation of the shop. These works, in conjunction with aggregate-mounted machine-tools, inspire us towards the resolution of automated production on the scale of lines, bays and shops.
